Where to go family camping?

Where to go camping with your family?

There are thousands of campsites and holiday parks ranging from basic farmer’s fields to lively parks with swimming pools, bars and restaurants.

We usually pick a location or general area first the search for a campsite. The Cool camping guide is a great source of quality sites and a google search should also bring you plenty to choose from.

The answer to the question where to go family camping will depend on what you’re looking for eg. campfires allowed, children’s play area, what you want to do when you’re there eg go hill walking, play in a river, visit a local area and how far you want to travel with the kids asking… “are we there yet?”

Even Further afield
The are great camping locations in Italy (Italian Lakes, Tuscany, Sardinia, Sicily) and Spain (Costa Brava, Costa Dorada and Costa Verde) offers fantastic family camping but when travelling with small children may require some overnight stopovers on the way.

Other areas to consider;

  • Corsica
  • Portugal
  • Holland
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • Germany
  • Luxembourg
  • Croatia

Ultimately where you go will depend on how much time you are prepared to travel (see our guide to long car journeys with kids), remembering that the journey is part of the holiday to be enjoyed not a trial of attrition, and what you want to do and see.

For first time campers Northern France probably offers the best option although the further south you head the better chance of good weather, you will have.
